My house is starting to smell so good! I have some homemade granola in the oven as I am writing this post. I love homemade granola, and although it is super easy to make, I don’t make it very often. But then I will get on a granola kick where it’s the only thing I want to eat for breakfast and I make batch after batch and consume it nearly as fast!
Homemade granola is easy and really quite inexpensive to make. Whenever I am in the cereal aisle in the grocery store I look at the pre-made granola to get ideas for different flavors to try, and I can’t help but look at the price and think, “ouch! I don’t want to pay that much for granola!” Good thing I can make it for a fraction of the price.
I cannot promise that this granola is the healthiest breakfast on the block, but it sure is tasty! You will need:
6 cups of old fashioned oats
1/2 cup brown sugar
3 tablespoons of honey
ΒΌ cup canola oil (other vegetable oil will work too)
1 tsp salt
1 cup slivered almonds (optional)
Mix brown sugar, oil, honey and salt in a deep saucepan on low until the sugar has melted. Then combine almonds and oats and stir into the sugar and honey mixture.
When all the oats are well coated in stickiness, use a silicone spatula to scrape all the oats out of the saucepan and out onto a baking sheet lined with wax paper. This makes for easy clean up. Pop the baking sheet into the oven that has been preheating at 225 degrees and allow it to bake for 45 minutes. Meanwhile enjoy the smell of granola wafting from the kitchen. It only makes it harder to wait for the deliciousness to be done!

And then voila! Yummy granola goodness all around! Time to enjoy some on yogurt, on a smoothie or eat it with milk for a cold cereal alternative!
